Israeli Military Conducts Attacks on Lebanon Village Amid Ongoing Disarmament Efforts
Reports have emerged of a recent Israeli military operation in the village of Sohmor, located in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. According to local media outlets, the attack targeted a building containing what the Israeli army claimed was “Hezbollah military infrastructure.” The military later stated that it was targeting multiple “Hezbollah sites” across Lebanon.
The attacks come amid growing tensions and concerns about an escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. The Lebanese government has been pushing for the disarmament of the militant group, with the United States supporting this effort. In response, Hezbollah has insisted that its weapons are necessary to deter Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese officials have expressed concerns about the potential consequences of disarmament efforts, with some warning of chaos and civil war. A senior Hezbollah official recently stated that pursuing a state monopoly on arms further north would be “the biggest crime committed by the state.”
The Lebanese army has announced plans to bring all non-state weapons under its control in the southern region, which borders Israel. However, Hezbollah has refused to relinquish its weapons elsewhere, citing the need to deter Israeli aggression.
Israel has maintained troops in five areas of southern Lebanon, violating a 2024 ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah. The situation remains volatile, with both sides refusing to compromise on their positions.
