US Suspend Attacks on Iran, Israel Supports Decision
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a statement confirming that the US decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks is supported by Israel. According to Netanyahu’s office, the US President Donald Trump’s efforts aim to ensure “Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile and terror threat to America, Israel, Iran’s Arab neighbors and the world”. The US has informed Israel of its commitment to achieving these goals in upcoming negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
However, Netanyahu clarified that the two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon. In contrast, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that an agreement was reached among the US, Iran, and their allies for an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon. This move is effective immediately.
The conflict began on March 2 when Iran-aligned Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel in response to Israel’s killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. Since then, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in over 1,500 deaths and more than 1 million displaced people. The Israeli military has also launched an invasion of southern Lebanon, aiming to establish a buffer zone.
As of now, there is no comment from Hezbollah or Lebanon regarding the situation.
