Israeli Security Cabinet Approves New Rules for Occupied West Bank
The Israeli security cabinet has approved new rules aimed at strengthening Israeli control over the occupied West Bank, according to local media reports. The Palestinian presidency has condemned the decision, calling it “dangerous” and an attempt to legalize settlement expansion.
According to reports, the new rules will make it easier for Israeli settlers to purchase land in the occupied West Bank and grant Israeli officials greater authority to enforce laws on Palestinians in the area. The measures also include allowing Israeli authorities to manage some religious sites and increasing supervision and enforcement in areas governed by the Palestinian Authority.
The Palestinian presidency has urged the United States and the UN Security Council to intervene immediately, while Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the decision as an attempt to impose illegal Israeli sovereignty on the West Bank. The Hamas group has called for Palestinians in the West Bank to intensify their resistance against the occupation.
The new rules are part of a broader effort to strengthen Israeli control over the occupied territory, which is seen by many as a key component of a potential future Palestinian state. The measures have been met with widespread criticism from Palestinian leaders and international organizations.
In related news, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington, DC on Wednesday.
