Israeli Settlers Impose Restrictions on Palestinian Communities in West Bank
Debris from a missile fired at an Israeli target has fallen in the northern West Bank village of Duma, prompting concerns about the safety of local residents. However, Thabet, a 24-year-old resident of the village, stated that the threat posed by Iranian missiles is overshadowed by the presence of Israeli settlers.
Settlers have been spotted roaming freely in rural areas of the West Bank, while Palestinian communities are restricted from movement between governorates. Leaflets distributed by Israeli authorities warn of “terrorism and terrorists” bringing death, destruction, and devastation. Gates at village entrances have been closed, and new ones installed to cut off movement.
In recent days, Israeli settler chat groups have encouraged incitement towards expelling Palestinians from the country. On Monday, two Palestinian brothers were killed by a gang of settlers in Qaryut, 4km west of Duma. Several Bedouin communities, including those displaced from Khirbet Ein ar-Rashash, live near the Mosallam family and are experiencing shortages due to restricted movement.
Humanitarian groups have been unable to reach these communities due to the restrictions imposed by the Israeli military. Settlers have been spotted threatening residents with weapons, intimidation, and beatings. Witnesses reported that several settlers entered Muhammad’s community on Sunday and assaulted a 70-year-old man, prompting a violent rampage by the settlers.
The Israeli authorities have distributed leaflets warning of “terrorism and terrorists” bringing harm to Palestinian communities. The restrictions imposed on these communities are in violation of international law, which requires Israel as the occupying power to provide protection for the population under its occupation.
