Israel Launches Digital Land Registry Plan in Occupied West Bank
The Israeli government has introduced an online platform to digitally register property ownership in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Land Authority and other local groups have expressed concerns over the move, labeling it a “dangerous colonial occupation step” that undermines Palestinian rights.
According to reports, Israel launched the “Land Registry and Settlement of Rights” platform on Wednesday, which aims to update property ownership in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Jerusalem Governorate and the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission (CRRC) have urged Palestinians not to engage with any Israeli entities related to land and property.
The CRRC has stated that the move represents a shift from traditional control methods to digital and administrative colonial engineering, aimed at imposing permanent legal realities on the occupied territory. The Palestinian authorities have called on international bodies, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, to take action against Israel’s alleged violations of Palestinian rights.
In May 2025, Israel launched an aggressive land settlement process in the West Bank, with the goal of completing the annexation of occupied territories through full registration under Israeli authority. The move was followed by a parliamentary approval of a symbolic measure calling for the annexation of the occupied West Bank in July 2025.
The permanent acquisition and registration of approximately 58 percent of Area C began on February 15, 2026, with Palestinian land registration in the Israeli “Tabu” – the land registry extract – starting for the first time since the occupation of the West Bank in 1967. The move is seen as a final step that will be difficult to challenge in Israeli courts.
The Israeli government aims to complete the settlement of 15 percent of the West Bank by the end of 2030, with around 700,000 Israeli settlers already living in the area. Rights groups have expressed concerns over the impact of settlement approvals and rising settler violence against Palestinian communities since Israel’s conflict with Gaza in October 2023.
