Lebanese Authorities Report High Casualties and Displacement in Israeli Air Raids
A series of Israeli air raids on Lebanon has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of residents. According to Lebanese authorities, over 1,450 people have been killed, including 126 children, since March 2. More than 4,400 individuals have also been wounded.
In one incident, an Israeli attack on the town of Kfar Hatta in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of seven people, including a four-year-old girl and a Lebanese soldier. The Ministry of Public Health reported this information on Sunday.
The Israeli military had ordered the forced evacuation of Kfar Hatta the previous evening, which many displaced residents had sought refuge in. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called for negotiation to prevent further destruction.
In Toul village, a couple was killed, while their children aged 15 and nine were injured. Officials report that approximately 25 percent of all victims are women, children, and medical workers.
The Israeli military expanded its forced evacuation orders on March 12, affecting residents from the Litani River to north of the Zahrani River. The displacement has overwhelmed Lebanon’s shelter capacity, with many families unable to find accommodation.
Between October 2023 and November 2024, hundreds of thousands of residents were forcibly displaced due to cross-border fighting between Hezbollah and Israel. Many had returned but were forced to flee again after Israeli attacks damaged homes and infrastructure. The World Bank estimated damage to residential buildings at approximately $2.8 billion.
