Israels military strategy for Iran war faces growing scrutiny and debate

Israel Launches Joint Attack with US Against Iran, Tensions Rise

In recent days, reports from Israeli media outlets have highlighted growing tensions within the country’s government regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran. According to a March 25 article in Yedioth Ahronoth, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief David Barnea are reportedly at odds over the failure of plans to collapse the Iranian regime.

The New York Times had previously reported that Barnea presented US officials with a plan to induce a successful insurrection after regime decapitation was carried out. The article stated that this would not have been done without the approval of Netanyahu, suggesting a level of coordination between the two leaders.

Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir has warned the security cabinet that the military could “collapse in on itself” due to manpower shortages. This warning has raised concerns about the effectiveness of Israel’s military strategy.

The conflict began with a joint attack by Israel and the US against Iran, which has resulted in significant damage and destruction on both sides. Iranian strikes have targeted Israeli cities, including Dimona, Haifa, and Ben Gurion airport. Israelis have been forced to seek shelter in bomb shelters and saferooms more frequently than in previous weeks.

The economy has also been impacted, with schools and businesses closed due to the ongoing conflict. Despite these challenges, Israel’s military remains active, and the country is continuing to retaliate against Iranian targets.

However, some questions are being raised about the effectiveness of Israel’s strategy, particularly regarding Iran’s “mosaic” strategy, which appears to be delivering greater endurance and imposing significant costs on Israel. The depletion of Israeli and US missile interceptor stocks is also a growing concern.

Additionally, an additional front has opened against Hezbollah in Lebanon, with reports suggesting that the group has been able to counter Israel’s operations with its own missile salvoes and local resistance to ground operations.
