Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic Achieves Historic Performance in NBA Game
In a thrilling matchup on Thursday night, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 142-138 in overtime, with center Nikola Jokic recording an impressive performance. Jokic’s 56 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists marked the first time in NBA history that a player has achieved at least 55 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists in a single game.
Jokic also set a new record for the third-highest point total on Christmas Day, behind only Bernard King’s 60 points in 1984 and Wilt Chamberlain’s 59 points in 1961. The 30-year-old center has now accumulated 179 triple-doubles in his regular season career and 21 in the postseason.
The Nuggets’ victory came after they trailed by nine points with just minutes left to play, but managed to mount a comeback in overtime. Jamal Murray added 35 points and 10 assists for the Nuggets, while Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards scored 44 points, including 24 of them in the fourth quarter and overtime.
In other games, the New York Knicks overcame a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Jalen Brunson scoring 34 points, including 13 of them in the final 7:15. The San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to eight consecutive games, handing the Oklahoma City Thunder back-to-back losses for the first time this season.
The Golden State Warriors held off the Dallas Mavericks, led by Stephen Curry’s 23 points, while the Houston Rockets defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder behind a performance from Amen Thompson, who scored a game-high 26 points.
