Kenyas John Korir and Sharon Lokedi Win Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon Sees Record-Breaking Performance by Korir and Lokedi

Kenyan athletes John Korir and Sharon Lokedi dominated the Boston Marathon, setting new records in the process. On Monday, Korir broke the marathon course record with a time of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 52 seconds, becoming the fifth-fastest runner in history.

Korir’s achievement surpassed Geoffrey Mutai’s previous record set in 2011 by 70 seconds. The top three men finished under the previous record. Korir was informed of his accomplishment by Boston Athletic Association president Jack Fleming after crossing the finish line.

In the women’s category, Lokedi defended her title with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 51 seconds. She set the course record last year in 2:17:22. Lokedi surged past Loice Chemnung at around 5 miles to go, running mile splits under four minutes and 50 seconds in the final stage.

Kenyan women took the top four spots, with Jess McClain placing fifth for the United States. The race was held on a chilly day with temperatures at 45F (7C) and a tailwind of up to 10mph (16km/h). Kelvin Kiptum holds the marathon world record, set in 2023 on the Chicago course.
