Kimi Antonelli Wins Miami Grand Prix for Mercedes
Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli has achieved a historic milestone in Formula One, becoming the first driver to convert his first three pole positions into race victories. On Sunday, Antonelli secured his third consecutive win from pole position at the Miami Grand Prix, driving for Mercedes.
Antonelli’s victory marked his third consecutive win of the season, and he now leads the championship with 100 points. His closest rivals, George Russell and Charles Leclerc, trail behind him with 80 and 63 points respectively.
In a thrilling race, Antonelli edged out McLaren’s Lando Norris by 3.2 seconds to take the top spot on the podium. Norris had started strong, winning the Saturday sprint, but ultimately lost out due to pit stop strategy.
The safety car was deployed after two accidents on lap six, and the race was completed without any further interruptions. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished fifth, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took sixth place despite suffering a damaged car and hitting the barrier at the end of the race.
A post-race investigation has been launched into Leclerc’s alleged breaches of track limits on the final lap, as well as Verstappen’s crossing of the white line at the pit lane exit. The results have also seen Williams score a double-points finish, with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon taking ninth and tenth places.
Antonelli’s team praised his performance, saying “we are working super hard and the team is doing an incredible job.” Norris expressed disappointment, stating that they were “undercut” by Antonelli’s strategy.
