Syrian Army Imposes Curfew in Kurdish-Led Neighborhood Amid Escalating Tensions
A curfew has been announced by the Syrian army for the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, which is under control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic forces. The move comes amid escalating tensions between the two sides.
Ahmad Suleiman, a prominent Kurdish leader, has called for dialogue between the Syrian army and the SDF to prevent a potential disaster in Aleppo that could have far-reaching consequences across the country.
The Syrian army has stated that the curfew will be enforced this evening. However, a humanitarian corridor has been established for civilians to evacuate the area until then.
Residents of Sheikh Maqsoud are currently able to leave the neighborhood through the designated corridor, which is being monitored by aid organizations and local authorities. The situation remains fluid, with both sides maintaining their positions.
The Kurdish-led SDF has maintained control over Sheikh Maqsoud since 2012, when it was captured from government forces. The Syrian army’s actions in the area have raised concerns about potential escalation and its impact on the broader conflict in Syria.
Details of the curfew and any subsequent developments will be reported as they become available.
