Lakers defeat Rockets 1-0 in Game 1 of NBA playoffs

LA Lakers Defeat Houston Rockets 107-98 in NBA Playoff Opener

The Los Angeles Lakers secured a 107-98 victory over the Houston Rockets in the opener of their first-round playoff series on Saturday night, despite missing leading scorers Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. The win marked an impressive performance by the short-handed Lakers, who capitalized on Kevin Durant’s injury absence.

Luke Kennard led the Lakers with a career-high 27 points, while LeBron James added 19 points and 13 assists. Deandre Ayton contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds for the fourth-seeded team. The Rockets were led by Alperen Sengun, who scored 19 points, and Jabari Smith Jr., who had 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lakers’ defense was particularly effective, holding the Rockets to 37.6 percent shooting while hitting 60.6 percent of their own shots. The team’s young core, which includes Amen Thompson, showed signs of inconsistency in their playoff debut.

In contrast, the Rockets struggled with consistent half-court offense in Durant’s absence. Reed Sheppard took his place in the starting lineup and scored 17 points, but the team ultimately fell short. Durant will have to wait at least one more game to make his playoff debut due to a bruised right knee.

The Lakers’ victory marked an inspired performance by LeBron James, who began his 19th NBA postseason with eight assists in the first quarter. The team also received contributions from veteran guard Marcus Smart, who had 15 points and eight assists in his Lakers playoff debut.
