Lebanese Families Return Home Amid Ongoing Israeli Attacks

Thousands of displaced Lebanese families have begun to return to their southern homeland, despite ongoing Israeli military operations and concerns about a potential breach of the recent ceasefire agreement.

On Saturday, a steady stream of vehicles carrying essential items such as mattresses and bags was seen traveling south towards the border region. The families are assessing the condition of their homes, which were damaged or destroyed during the conflict.

The 10-day truce between Lebanon and Israel has enabled residents to inspect properties in areas controlled by Hezbollah, including southern suburbs that suffered intense Israeli bombardment. However, many returnees have found their homes uninhabitable due to extensive damage.

Lebanese authorities report that nearly 2,300 people were killed and over one million displaced during the conflict, primarily from southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs. Senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qamati has warned that “Israeli treachery is expected at any time” and urged residents to exercise caution when returning home.

The Israeli military has established a “Yellow Line” in southern Lebanon, similar to what it did in the Gaza Strip. Local officials have pledged to restore services and clear blocked roads to facilitate the return of displaced families. Deputy mayor Mustapha Bazzoun stated that while people are returning, they are doing so cautiously, with the intention of making their homes permanent once again.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing Israeli military operations and concerns about a potential breach of the ceasefire agreement.
