Lindsey Vonn recalls downhill skiing accident at the Winter Olympics

Lindsey Vonn Suffers Fracture During Winter Olympics Downhill Event

American ski athlete Lindsey Vonn has been hospitalized in Italy after suffering a complex tibia fracture during the Winter Olympics downhill event. According to her social media post, Vonn crashed heavily just 13 seconds into her run and was winched off the piste by a rescue helicopter.

Vonn revealed that she had undergone surgery for the injury and would require multiple surgeries to fix properly. She attributed the crash to a mistake in her line, stating that she was “5 inches too tight” on her route when her right arm hooked inside of the gate, causing her to twist and result in the crash.

The 41-year-old athlete expressed no regrets about competing at the Games despite the injury, saying that her Olympic dream did not end as she had hoped. Vonn had resumed her career in late 2024 after a six-year retirement and was considered a strong favourite for the downhill event before the pre-Olympics crash in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Vonn’s statement acknowledged the risks involved in downhill ski racing, noting that even small mistakes can have significant consequences. She is currently being treated at a hospital in Treviso, Italy, where she will undergo further treatment and rehabilitation.
