Liverpool FC Announces Departure of Manager Arne Slot
Liverpool has parted ways with manager Arne Slot, the club announced on Saturday. Slot, a former Feyenoord boss, took over as Liverpool’s head coach in 2024 and led the team to the Premier League title in his first season.
However, Slot’s second season at the club was marked by a decline in performance, with the team finishing fifth in the league. Despite efforts to qualify for the Champions League, Liverpool failed to win a domestic cup.
In a statement, the club acknowledged that Slot’s departure was not an easy decision but emphasized the need for change to move forward. The club praised Slot’s contributions and commitment to the team, citing his ability to take responsibility and lead the team through challenging times.
The process of appointing a new manager is underway, with Andoni Iraola reportedly being considered for the role after guiding Bournemouth to sixth place in the league and qualification for the Europa League. The club has also faced criticism from fans and players, including departing player Mohamed Salah, who expressed concerns about Slot’s performance.
Liverpool spent $570m on new signings last preseason, but many of these players have underperformed. The team was also affected by the death of Portugal forward Diogo Jota last summer.
