US Secretary of Labour Lori Chavez-DeRemer to Leave Post
Lori Chavez-DeRemer, the US Secretary of Labour, will be leaving her position within the Trump administration, according to an announcement by White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung on X. This marks the third high-profile female official to depart from the administration since March.
Chavez-DeRemer’s departure comes after recent exits of Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi. The exact reason for her departure is not specified, although it was reported in January that she was under investigation regarding allegations of an “inappropriate” relationship with a subordinate and workplace conduct.
During her tenure as labour secretary, Chavez-DeRemer had taken positions that diverged from some members of Trump’s inner circle. She had voiced support for the PRO Act, a pro-union bill, which garnered backing from some Democrats. Additionally, she had aligned more closely with the administration’s anti-regulatory policies.
Chavez-DeRemer will be succeeded by Deputy Labour Secretary Keith Sonderling as Acting Secretary of Labor. Her departure follows previous departures of top officials within the Department of Labour during Trump’s second term.
