Magnitude 7.4 earthquake strikes off Indonesias Ternate, triggering tsunami warning

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck the Northern Molucca Sea off the coast of Ternate in eastern Indonesia. The United States Geological Survey reported that the quake occurred at a depth of approximately 10km (6.21 miles). Initially recorded as having a magnitude of 7.8, the seismic event was located about 120km (75 miles) from Ternate, within Indonesia’s North Maluku province.
According to the US Tsunami Warning System, a tsunami warning has been issued for nearby islands due to the earthquake. The system indicates that dangerous tsunami waves are possible within a radius of approximately 1,000km (621 miles) along the coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
The epicentre of the earthquake is situated about 120km from Ternate, in the North Maluku province. The US Geological Survey has confirmed this information, providing details on the location and depth of the seismic event.
