US Secret Service Shoots and Kills Man Attempting to Break into Mar-a-Lago Resort
A man in his 20s has been shot and killed by US Secret Service agents attempting to break into the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. According to the agency, the individual was armed with a shotgun and fuel can.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 1:30am local time (06:30 GMT). At the time, US President Trump was in Washington, DC, not at the resort. No other individuals under Secret Service protection were present during the incident.
According to Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service’s communications chief, agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confronted the armed individual after he approached Mar-a-Lago’s north gate. The suspect was pronounced dead after being shot by law enforcement officials.
Guglielmi stated that the suspect is believed to be from North Carolina and had been reported missing by his family a few days prior to the incident. He added that investigators are still gathering information about the individual’s background, actions, potential motive, and the use of force involved in the incident.
The FBI, US Secret Service, and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident. This is not the first time President Trump has faced threats or assassination plots; earlier this month, Ryan Routh was sentenced to life in prison for plotting to assassinate the president at a Florida golf course in September 2024.
