Man shot by NYPD at New York Citys Grand Central Station

Three elderly individuals were injured at New York City’s Grand Central station on Saturday morning. A man wielding a machete was shot by police after allegedly attacking three victims. According to the NYPD, the incident occurred at approximately 9:40am Eastern time.

Police responded to reports of a man with a knife at the iconic transit hub and one officer opened fire, striking the suspect. The individual was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Three people were injured before police arrived, including an 84-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman, and a 65-year-old man.

All three victims were hospitalized in stable condition. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that the suspect later died from the wound. In a statement, he praised the NYPD for their response and said they would release body-worn camera footage as part of an internal investigation.

The attacker’s identity and motivations are currently unknown. Grand Central station is a major transit hub in Midtown Manhattan, serving several subway lines and the Metro-North Railroad system. The terminal is also a popular tourist destination, attracting approximately 750,000 visitors daily.
