Manchester City Captain to Leave Club at End of Season
Assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva will leave the club at the end of the season. The 31-year-old Portugal international, who has won six Premier League titles and the Champions League during his nine-year spell, will depart as a free agent when his contract expires.
Lijnders stated that “every good story comes to an end” and expressed hope that Silva would enjoy the remaining months of the season. The midfielder has made 450 appearances for City since joining from AS Monaco in 2017 for a reported fee of approximately $57.35m.
Silva’s departure marks the second major player to leave a top-four Premier League club this season, following Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah, who confirmed his exit in May. Silva will be leaving City as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, having won numerous titles under manager Pep Guardiola.
The Manchester club remain in contention for a domestic treble, with eight matches remaining to bridge the deficit behind Premier League leaders Arsenal. The 2025-26 campaign is entering its final weeks, and Silva will become the second major player to leave City this season.
