Manchester City Set to Face Crystal Palace in Must-Win Fixture
Manchester City will host Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, May 13, in a crucial Premier League match. The outcome of this game could significantly impact City’s chances of winning the title.
City’s recent performance has been solid, with a home win over Brentford on Saturday keeping them in contention for the championship. However, their lead was briefly reduced by Arsenal’s victory at West Ham United the following day. If City beat Palace on Wednesday, they would narrow the gap to two points behind league leaders Arsenal.
The outcome of this match will also determine City’s fate in the title race. A win would keep them alive, but a draw or defeat would put them four points behind Arsenal. In such a scenario, Arsenal could be crowned champions as early as Monday, May 18.
City’s next two fixtures are against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, both of which will be challenging. Palace, on the other hand, has a relatively easy run-in to the end of the season, with their eyes set on the Conference League final.
Arsenal’s recent dramatic win over West Ham United has given them an 87.2% chance of winning the title from hereon, according to Opta’s supercomputer. If City were to win all three remaining matches and Arsenal draw one of their two games, both teams would end the season level on points.
The Premier League Handbook states that in the event of a tie, the final table placings would be determined by goal difference, goals scored, and points won in head-to-head matches. If City were to claim the title based on these criteria, it would be their first since 2012.
