Manchester United to Host Manchester City in Premier League Match
On Saturday, January 17, at 12:30pm (12:30 GMT), Manchester United will host Manchester City at Old Trafford in a highly anticipated English Premier League match. This is Michael Carrick’s first game as interim manager of the team.
Carrick, who has previously managed Middlesbrough, will be tasked with steadying a side that has struggled through recent matches. Manchester City, on the other hand, have put behind their previous period of discontent and are once again competing for the Premier League title.
The two teams have contrasting forms heading into the match. Manchester United is currently seventh in the table with one win in their last six league matches, while Manchester City is second in the league table, six points behind Arsenal. Despite recent draws, City’s recent form suggests they are rediscovering their edge.
Carrick has expressed his enthusiasm for the role and stated that he feels “in a really good place” to be managing the team. He has a contract until the end of the season, during which time United will identify candidates to replace him.
Manchester City have recently signed Antoine Semenyo, who has injected unpredictability into Guardiola’s team. The team’s goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland struck twice in their previous Premier League match against Manchester United, while Phil Foden chipped in with the other goal.
The match will be followed by Al Jazeera Sport’s build-up and commentary stream at 09:30 GMT.
