The match marked a significant milestone for United captain Bruno Fernandes, who reached 100 assists in all competitions for the club. He set up two goals for his teammates, including Casemiro’s opener and Cunha’s equalizer. Sesko sealed the victory with a deflected effort in the 81st minute.

The win has strengthened Manchester United’s position in the Premier League, as they sit third with three points clear of fourth-placed Villa. Aston Villa, meanwhile, have lost their last three league games and have just one win in seven top-flight matches.

Nottingham Forest climbed out of the relegation zone after a 0-0 draw against Fulham at the City Ground. Leeds held on for a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s missed penalty and a red card for Gabriel Gudmundsson. Tottenham will face Liverpool later on Sunday, with only goal difference keeping them outside the relegation zone.

Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe praised Carrick’s “excellent” work, but did not commit to extending his contract. The win has cemented Carrick’s position as a strong contender for the permanent manager role.
