Manchester United interim coach Darren Fletcher will manage his first game on Wednesday as the team faces Burnley. Fletcher, a former Manchester United player and current under-18s coach, has been appointed to lead the team temporarily after Ruben Amorim’s sacking on Monday.
Fletcher stated that leading the club was beyond his wildest dreams, but he has not considered replacing Amorim. He expressed his surprise at being appointed in such circumstances, but emphasized his focus on the upcoming match against Burnley.
The 41-year-old coach mentioned that preliminary talks had been held with United’s hierarchy regarding potential caretaker appointments, including former players Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, Fletcher stated that conversations focused solely on Wednesday’s game, and he would discuss further possibilities after the match.
Fletcher has experience working for Manchester United since 2020, including as technical director. He won five Premier League titles under Alex Ferguson but acknowledged the club’s current struggles to achieve English championship success.
The team is currently sixth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool. Fletcher expressed his confidence in the players and hopes to welcome back injured players Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount into the squad.
