Manchester Uniteds Bruno Fernandes wins Premier League Player of the Season award

Manchester United Captain Bruno Fernandes Named Premier League Player of the Season

Bruno Fernandes has been awarded the Premier League player of the season award for guiding Manchester United to a third-place finish in the standings. The Portugal international achieved this feat by equalling the league’s assists record, which was previously held jointly by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Fernandes also scored eight goals during the season.

Fernandes was nominated alongside other top players from various clubs, including Arsenal’s Gabriel, David Raya, and Declan Rice, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, and Brentford’s Igor Thiago. The award recognizes Fernandes as the Premier League’s best playmaker this season, with 132 chances created during the league.

Fernandes has previously received several individual awards, including the Football Writers’ Association men’s player of the year and the club’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year honour for the fifth time. He will have the opportunity to make the Premier League assists record his own on Sunday when Manchester United travel to Brighton & Hove Albion.

This award marks a rare occasion where a player not part of a title-winning side is recognized for their achievement, with Kevin De Bruyne’s 2020 award being the last example. Fernandes will represent Portugal at this summer’s 2026 World Cup, which begins on June 17.
