Kylian Mbappe Returns from Injury, Receives Mixed Reaction from Fans
Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe made his return to the team after a three-week absence due to a thigh injury in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Real Oviedo. The France captain came on as a substitute in the 69th minute and earned an assist for the second goal, but was met with whistles from some of the club’s own supporters.
According to Mbappe, coach Alvaro Arbeloa told him he was being considered as the “fourth forward” in the squad before making him a substitute. The striker said he understood his position and accepted it, stating that he would play the time he had been given.
Mbappe also addressed criticism from fans who felt he should have played more after missing the Clasico against Barcelona last weekend. He downplayed the importance of his recent holiday in Sardinia while recovering from injury, saying he had received permission to be away from the club.
In a post-match news conference, Arbeloa denied telling Mbappe that he was being dropped from the starting lineup, stating that “maybe he didn’t understand me well.” The coach explained that the decision not to start Mbappe was based on the circumstances of the game and his own desire to minimize risk. Arbeloa also reassured fans that Mbappe would be the first-choice forward for Sunday’s upcoming match.
The team’s season has been marked by turmoil, with recent changes in coaching staff and a disappointing loss in the Clasico. The club will now face an election for leadership, following Barcelona’s sealing of the La Liga title.
