Daniil Medvedev Advances to Indian Wells Open Final
Russian player Daniil Medvedev has defeated top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells Open semifinals, ending Alcaraz’s 16-match winning streak. The match took place on Saturday, with Medvedev emerging victorious 6-3, 7-6 (3). This victory sets up a final matchup between Medvedev and second-seeded Jannik Sinner.
Medvedev arrived at the tournament after traveling from the United Arab Emirates via Oman, following a period of conflict in the Middle East. He had been scheduled to participate in an exhibition event but was unable to leave Dubai due to airspace closure. Instead, he crossed over into Oman by land and then boarded a flight to Istanbul before arriving in the US.
Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4 in the other semifinal matchup. The victory marked Sinner’s first loss of the year, while Medvedev has yet to drop a set in the tournament. This was Medvedev’s first win over Alcaraz since the US Open semifinals in 2023.
In other matches, Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova won the women’s doubles final, while Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard took the men’s doubles title. Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli also emerged victorious in the mixed doubles competition.
