Daniil Medvedev Loses to Matteo Berrettini at Monte Carlo Masters
In a second-round match at the Monte Carlo Masters, Daniil Medvedev suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat against Matteo Berrettini. The loss marked Medvedev’s first double-bagel defeat in his career.
Medvedev struggled with unforced errors and serving issues, committing 30 mistakes and five double faults during the match. He also missed two break points in the opening game. Berrettini took advantage of these opportunities to secure a quick victory.
Berrettini praised his performance, stating that it was one of the best of his life. He attributed his success to a well-executed game plan and effective shot selection.
Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev overcame Cristian Garin in a closely contested match. Zverev trailed 4-0 in the third set but staged a late comeback to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. He will face Joao Fonseca in the last 16 after defeating Garin.
Zverev’s victory marked his first win since Munich 12 months ago and his seventh Masters title. He is now one step closer to completing a set of all three clay-court Masters 1000 titles this week.
Berrettini, ranked 90th, will face Fonseca in the last 16 after beating Arthur Rinderknech. Zverev will face unseeded Belgian Zizou Bergs in the next round.
