Messi Diagnosed With Hamstring Fatigue Ahead Of Argentina Camp

Lionel Messi Suffers Left Hamstring Injury Ahead of World Cup

Inter Miami has confirmed that Lionel Messi suffered a left hamstring issue during their Major League Soccer (MLS) fixture on Sunday night. The injury occurred approximately one week before Argentina’s scheduled training camp for the upcoming World Cup.

Messi underwent testing on Monday, which likely included an MRI exam, and was diagnosed with “an overload associated with muscle fatigue in his left hamstring.” As a result, he was substituted out of the match in the 73rd minute due to “physical discomfort.”

The team’s statement noted that Messi’s return to physical activity will depend on his clinical and functional progress. The severity of the injury is currently unknown.

Messi had been performing well for Inter Miami, scoring two assists in the first half of the match against the Philadelphia Union. However, he was unable to complete the game due to the injury.

Argentina has a pair of friendlies scheduled before the World Cup, with their first match set to take place on June 6 in College Station, Texas, against Honduras. The team will play in college football stadiums with a combined capacity of approximately 180,000.

Messi has previously won the Golden Ball award at the World Cup twice, in 2014 and 2022. His participation in the tournament is uncertain due to his current injury status.
