Mexican Authorities Deploy 10,000 Soldiers Nationwide in Response to Drug Lord’s Killing
A military operation in western Mexico resulted in the killing of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, a high-ranking member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Following his death, authorities have deployed approximately 10,000 soldiers across 20 states to maintain order and quell violence. The operation took place about 130km from Guadalajara city, which is the capital of Jalisco state.
According to reports, at least 74 people were killed in the operation, including 25 National Guard officers. Additionally, suspected CJNG members have set fire to cars, blocked roads, and attacked banks, petrol stations, and shops in several states. The violence has led to a significant disruption in daily life, with schools closed in Guadalajara and other cities.
President Claudia Sheinbaum has stated that the country is calm and that all activity has been restored. However, security concerns remain high as experts warn of a potential power vacuum within CJNG due to the absence of a direct succession. The White House has confirmed that the US provided intelligence support for the operation, but emphasized that only Mexican forces were involved.
The deployment of soldiers nationwide is aimed at restoring order and maintaining stability in the region. As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are working to address the underlying causes of the violence and prevent further disruptions to daily life.
