Toyota Racing Driver Wins NASCAR’s Daytona 500
Michael Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, has won the prestigious Daytona 500 in his co-owned car. Tyler Reddick, driving for 23XI Racing, took the lead on the final lap and crossed the finish line first, securing the victory.
Reddick, who is 30 years old from Corning, California, led only one lap of the race but managed to outmaneuver his opponents to take the win. This marks Reddick’s ninth Cup Series victory and his first win since late in the 2024 season.
Jordan, who turned 63 on Tuesday, was seen celebrating with Reddick in the victory lane, where they jointly hoisted the Harley J Earl Trophy. Jordan also received a Daytona 500 ring as a birthday gift, which he plans to display alongside his other championship rings.
Team co-owner Denny Hamlin expressed his team’s excitement about Jordan’s win, saying that it was a testament to their hard work and dedication. “He loves his race team,” Hamlin stated. “We reminded the team of the fulfillment they saw in Michael Jordan when Reddick won at Talladega in 2024.”
Reddick’s teammate, Denny Hamlin, finished 31st in the race, but was still thrilled with the victory. “Just incredible how it all played out,” Reddick said. “I’ve already lost my voice from screaming. Never thought I’d be Daytona 500 champion.”
This win marks a significant milestone for Jordan, who has now won two major racing events. He will celebrate his birthday on Tuesday by wearing a size 13 shoe, as he made known in the victory lane.
