Moscow Policeman Killed in Bomb Attack Near Ukraine War Anniversary Site

A Bomb Attack Occurred Near Savyolovsky Train Station in Moscow

A deadly explosion occurred near the Savyolovsky train station in central Moscow early Tuesday morning. The blast happened at approximately 21:06 GMT, minutes after midnight local time. An attacker detonated an explosive device next to a police car, killing himself and one officer.

According to the Russian Ministry for Internal Affairs, two other officers were injured in the attack and are being treated for their injuries. The ministry has not released details on the assailant or a motive for the bomb attack.

The Investigative Committee for major crimes stated that it had opened a case for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and for the illegal possession of explosive devices. One traffic policeman died at the scene, while two others were taken to a city hospital with injuries incompatible with life.

Images shared by TASS news agency showed a heavily damaged police car with its passenger windows and windscreen blown out. Despite the intensity of the blast, the police car did not catch fire. This incident marks the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In recent weeks, Moscow has witnessed a series of attacks. A top Russian military intelligence officer was shot several times and seriously wounded in an attack earlier this month. In December 2025, a car bomb explosion killed Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the training department within the Russian General Staff.
