Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano erupts, spewing ash into the sky.
A recent eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Merapi volcano has sent a column of ash high into the air. According to eyewitnesses, the ash plume reached an altitude of approximately 2 kilometres above ground level in West Sumatra’s Tanh Datar District.
The Indonesian government had previously established an “exclusion zone” within a 3-kilometre radius around Mount Merapi following a similar eruption in 2023. This measure is intended to protect the surrounding area from potential hazards associated with volcanic activity.
As a result of the current eruption, authorities have reinforced the exclusion zone to ensure public safety. The exact impact of the eruption on local residents and infrastructure remains to be determined.
Video footage captured by eyewitnesses shows the ash cloud rising from Mount Merapi, providing visual evidence of the volcano’s recent activity. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
The Indonesian government is closely monitoring the situation and has taken steps to mitigate any potential risks associated with the eruption. Residents in the surrounding area are advised to follow official instructions and stay informed about any developments related to Mount Merapi.
