A bulk carrier reported being attacked by multiple small craft off the coast of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that all crew members on board the unidentified northbound vessel were safe following the incident, which occurred 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, Iran.
According to UKMTO, no environmental impact has been reported as a result of the incident. Sirik is located on the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that has been at the center of recent tensions between the US and Iran.
The United States has imposed a counter-blockade on Iranian ports since April 13, following the implementation of a fragile truce. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that 49 commercial vessels attempting to enter or exit Iranian ports had been redirected under its blockade as of Sunday.
In a social media post, CENTCOM stated that US forces remain committed to enforcing the blockade. The incident involving the bulk carrier has been confirmed by UKMTO, and no further information is available at this time.
