New Website TrumpRx Launches in US with Promise to Lower Prescription Medication Prices

US President Launches Website to Lower Prescription Medication Prices

The White House has announced the launch of TrumpRx, a new website aimed at reducing the cost of prescription medications for US consumers. The initiative, which was unveiled by President Donald Trump on Thursday, allows users to purchase discounted drugs directly from pharmaceutical companies.

According to the White House, over 40 popular medications are currently available on the site, including weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy. Users can search for their desired medication, print out a coupon, and present it at a pharmacy to receive the discounted price.

The Trump administration has stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to address growing concerns over pharmaceutical prices in the US. The website claims to offer “the world’s lowest prices on prescription drugs” and promises an “impactful prescription price reset”.

However, analysts have raised questions about the affordability of the proposed discounts for many people. Juliette Cubanski, deputy director for Medicare policy at health policy organisation KFF, noted that there is a concern about out-of-pocket costs being relatively unaffordable for some individuals.

The Trump administration has secured agreements with 16 pharmaceutical companies to offer discounted prices for certain medications, including those sold through government programs such as Medicaid. The details of these agreements remain confidential, according to previous analysis by KFF.

Pharmaceutical companies have historically been a significant force in US politics, and their lobbying activities have been reported to be substantial. In 2025, pharmaceutical manufacturers spent $187m on lobbying efforts, according to the watchdog group Open Secrets.
