Neymars Substitution Sparks Anger, Future in World Cup Uncertain

Brazilian Forward Neymar Substituted in Error During Match Against Coritiba

Neymar, Brazil’s leading goal scorer, was involved in a substitution mix-up during a recent match against Coritiba. The 34-year-old forward was mistakenly substituted out of the game in the 65th minute, with teammate Robinho Jr replacing him.

According to Santos FC, the fourth official made an error in signaling Neymar’s number 10 on the substitution board, instead of his teammate Gonzalo Escobar. Neymar refused to leave the field and eventually received a yellow card for his behavior.

The incident occurred during a Serie A match at Santos’ home stadium, where the team is currently struggling with relegation. The match ended in a 3-0 loss for Santos.

Santos FC confirmed that the mistake was made by the fourth official, citing television coverage and official notes as evidence. Neymar has been working to regain his fitness after a series of injuries, including knee surgery in February.

Brazil’s national team coach, Carlo Ancelotti, will ultimately decide whether Neymar is included in the World Cup squad. Ancelotti has stated that he must consider multiple factors when making his decision, including Neymar’s recent performances and any potential health concerns.

Neymar has expressed his desire to return to the national team, which he last represented in October 2023. He has scored six goals in 15 appearances for Santos since returning from injury and is currently training to prove his fitness for the World Cup.

The World Cup squad submission deadline is approaching, and Neymar’s place on the team remains uncertain.
