Portugal to Face Nigeria in World Cup Warm-Up Match on Wednesday
A friendly match between Portugal and Nigeria is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:45pm GMT at Estadio Dr Magalhaes Pessoa in Leiria, Portugal. The match marks the final warm-up for Portugal ahead of their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Portugal’s squad, led by manager Roberto Martinez, boasts a talented lineup featuring star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Bernardo Silva. The team has secured victory in their previous friendly match against Chile on Saturday, with Goncalo Guedes and Bruno Fernandes scoring for the hosts.
Nigeria, who will not be participating in the World Cup this summer, has been unbeaten in their last six matches and is expected to provide a stiff challenge for Portugal. The Super Eagles’ veteran forward, Ahmed Musa, will make his appearance in the match after playing the first half against Chile on Saturday.
Portugal’s squad will depart for North America shortly after the match, with their base camp set up in Florida, USA. They will begin their World Cup campaign next Wednesday, facing the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Houston, Texas, and will then play Uzbekistan on June 23 before facing Colombia on June 27.
Nigeria’s squad, meanwhile, is focused on qualification for the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which is being jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The team has been on a good run of form recently, including draws with Poland and Jordan and a win over Iran.
