Multiple States Sue Over USPS Role in Mail Balloting
Several states have joined a lawsuit against the US Postal Service (USPS) over President Donald Trump’s executive order, which restricts mail-in voting. The lawsuits claim that the order is unconstitutional.
In response to the executive order, 23 states and Washington D.C. filed a lawsuit against the USPS in federal court. The complaint argues that the order violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.
Additionally, two dozen Democrat-led states have joined another lawsuit against the USPS over the same issue. This lawsuit claims that the executive order restricts voting rights and is unconstitutional.
A third lawsuit was filed by Oregon, which challenges Trump’s order restricting vote-by-mail. The complaint argues that the order causes confusion, chaos, and distrust among voters.
The lawsuits were filed in response to Trump’s executive order, which requires states to follow certain guidelines for mail-in voting. The order restricts the types of documents that can be sent through the mail and limits the number of absentee ballots that can be sent to voters.
The USPS has stated that it will comply with the executive order, but the lawsuits argue that the order is unconstitutional and should be blocked.
The cases are ongoing, and no decisions have been made on whether the orders are constitutional or not.
