Seven people have been injured in a building collapse in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, according to Abdel Hamid Karimeh, head of the municipal council. The incident occurred on Sunday, resulting in at least six fatalities.
Karimeh reported that rescue teams are currently searching for individuals trapped under rubble in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighbourhood. Seven people have been taken to medical facilities with injuries, while eight others have been rescued so far.
Search-and-rescue operations are being led by civil defence teams, supported by the Lebanese Red Cross and emergency agencies. Residents of the affected area have also participated in rescue efforts, helping to remove debris and create openings in the collapsed building.
Members of the Internal Security Forces and Tripoli municipal police have evacuated residential buildings adjacent to the collapsed structure due to concerns about potential collapse. The deployment of army personnel is ongoing, with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun ordering all emergency services to be on high alert for assistance.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has stated that the government will provide housing allowances for residents of affected buildings.
