Norway files ethics complaint against FIFA President Infantino ahead of World Cup

Norwegian Football Federation Submits Formal Complaint to FIFA Over Political Neutrality Concerns

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has formally submitted an official complaint to FIFA’s ethics committee, alleging that the governing body’s president, Gianni Infantino, breached political neutrality rules. The complaint was lodged in support of human rights organization FairSquare and objects to Infantino presenting a “peace prize” to US President Donald Trump during the 2026 World Cup draw.

The NFF has asked the ethics committee to assess whether Infantino violated FIFA’s statutes regarding political neutrality through the award and related actions. According to NFF president Lise Klaveness, the complaint was submitted independently by the federation, with support from other member associations but without pressure on them to join.

Klaveness stated that the move has triggered some political reactions within FIFA, but acknowledged that it had been officially submitted and is now being reviewed. She expressed her intention to follow up on the matter after the World Cup and push forward with requests for meetings and momentum-building efforts.

In a recent meeting in Budapest, Klaveness reported that FIFA officials reacted to the NFF’s stance, perceiving the letter as problematic due to its origin from a member association. However, she noted that the discussion was constructive and aimed at understanding why the letter was perceived this way and why Norway supports FairSquare in this matter.

FIFA has not commented on the complaint yet.
