Oregon Governor Primary Elections Guide Released Ahead of Upcoming Elections

Oregon Primaries Set to Narrow Field of Candidates for Governor and Other Offices

A total of 25 candidates from both major parties will compete in Tuesday’s primary elections in Oregon, seeking to replace incumbent Governor Tina Kotek as she seeks a second term. The Democratic primary is expected to be dominated by Kotek, who is currently the frontrunner with no opponents polling close behind.

In contrast, the Republican primary has attracted more attention, with State Senator Christine Drazan leading the pack with 35% support. Other notable candidates on the Republican ballot include former NBA player Chris Dudley and State Representative Ed Diehl.

The primaries will also determine nominees for various offices, including the US House of Representatives, state Senate, and House of Representatives. All six members of Oregon’s congressional delegation are running for re-election, with five Democrats and one Republican, Cliff Bentz, seeking to retain their seats.

Additionally, voters will weigh in on a referendum that could repeal a state fuel tax, which has been affected by the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran. The primary elections will take place from 7am Pacific US time (15:00 GMT) to 8pm (4:00 GMT).

Oregon is a closed primary state, meaning voters can only choose nominees for the party they are registered under. As such, the winners of the Democratic primaries are likely to emerge as frontrunners in November’s midterm elections.

Polls show that less than 25% of Oregonians are registered Republicans, while 32% identify as Democrats. The largest proportion of voters, however, identify as “non-affiliated” with any party.
