Pakistan and Afghanistan tensions rise over border disputes

Pakistan Summons Afghan Diplomat Amid Ongoing Tensions

A senior Afghan diplomat was summoned by Pakistani authorities on Monday following an attack attributed to the Pakistan Taliban (TPP). The TPP claimed responsibility for two additional attacks targeting security forces. Islamabad has accused Kabul of backing the fighters, which the Afghan government denies.

The tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been ongoing since the Taliban took power in 2021. A major border skirmish in February marked the beginning of the latest escalation. Mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and China led to a temporary pause in hostilities. However, both sides continue to target each other.

The situation has taken a turn for the worse with a Pakistani strike on a drug rehabilitation centre that resulted in over 250 fatalities. The incident raises questions about whether these breaches will lead to a resumption of violence.

Experts from Pakistan and Afghanistan will discuss the ongoing tensions and potential prospects for lasting peace between the two nations.
