Pakistan hosts high-ranking diplomats from Saudi Arabia and Turkey

Pakistani Government Facilitates Talks Between US and Iran

Diplomats from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey have gathered in Islamabad for a two-day meeting with their Pakistani counterparts to discuss the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran. The talks, led by Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, aim to de-escalate tensions.

On Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that 20 additional ships under the Pakistani flag would be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz daily. This move was seen as a gesture of goodwill and part of preparations for the Islamabad talks.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also spoke with Pezeshkian earlier in the day, discussing ways to resolve the conflict. Pakistan has been acting as an intermediary between the US and Iran, passing messages between the two sides.

The gathering in Islamabad is seen as a critical step in the mediation process. Diplomats from various countries have expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that he expected a direct meeting between the US and Iran “very soon” in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched attacks on Israel on Saturday, following the arrival of additional US forces in the Middle East. The talks in Islamabad are ongoing, with diplomats working to reach a consensus on the conflict.
