Twelve individuals involved in the Palestine Action group have been released from custody and reunited with their families following a court decision to grant them bail.
The activists, who include those who had undertaken hunger strikes, were charged with entering the British site of an Israeli-linked defence firm. The court has now allowed them to be released on bail, pending further proceedings.
Outside the Central Criminal Court in London, the individuals met with their families, who had been waiting for news about their loved ones’ status. The reunion was a welcome development for those affected by the arrest and detention of the activists.
The Palestine Action group is involved in various campaigns related to Israeli-Palestinian relations and has been known to take direct action against targets deemed to be linked to Israel’s defence industry. The group’s activities have drawn attention from authorities, leading to arrests and charges being brought against its members.
The court decision to grant bail allows the activists to continue their lives while awaiting trial. Further details about the case will become clear as the proceedings unfold.
