Prince Harry Sued for Defamation Over Charity Co-Founding

Prince Harry’s Charity Sued for Defamation

A lawsuit has been filed against Prince Harry, who co-founded an African AIDS charity called Sentebale, by the organization itself. The charity claims that Prince Harry and his former trustee Mark Dyer are responsible for a “coordinated adverse media campaign” that caused operational disruption and reputational harm to the charity.

According to court filings, Prince Harry is listed as a defendant in the lawsuit alongside Mr. Dyer. Sentebale alleges that the two individuals orchestrated the negative media coverage, which included cyber-bullying directed at the charity and its leadership.

Prince Harry’s spokesperson has denied the allegations, stating that he “categorically” rejects the libel claim. The dispute between Prince Harry and Sentebale surfaced in 2023 over a new fundraising strategy, with both parties stepping down as patrons in March 2025.

The UK’s Charity Commission investigated the matter and found no evidence of bullying, but criticized all parties for allowing an internal dispute to become public. However, the commission did identify weak governance within the charity.

Sentebale has commenced legal proceedings in the High Court of England and Wales, seeking protection, restitution, and intervention from the court. The charity was founded by Prince Harry and his friend Prince Seeiso of Lesotho about 20 years ago as a tribute to Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997.

The lawsuit marks a new development in the ongoing dispute between Prince Harry and Sentebale, which has been marked by public accusations and counter-accusations.
