Qatari Prime Minister meets with US officials on strategic cooperation

US Officials Meet with Qatari Prime Minister in Washington

A meeting was held in Washington, DC between senior US officials and Qatar’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The meeting took place on Friday and involved discussions on strengthening the “close strategic cooperation” between Doha and Washington.

Sheikh Mohammed met with US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary Scott Bessent, as well as US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in a separate meeting on Thursday. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that both sides reviewed ways to enhance their defence partnership, particularly in light of the current regional situation.

The discussions also focused on ensuring the sustainability of energy supplies and maintaining the flow of liquefied natural gas from Qatar to global markets. Both parties emphasized the importance of supporting global energy security.

In a separate statement, US Vice President JD Vance praised Qatar’s “active role in promoting regional stability and enhancing global energy security”. The Gulf region has been experiencing heightened tensions since February 28, when the US-Israeli war on Iran began, resulting in significant damage to infrastructure and loss of life.

The Qatari Cabinet had previously condemned Iranian attacks on Qatar and its neighbours, calling for an immediate halt.
