Real Madrid Beats Manchester City 3-0 in Champions League Tie
In a dominant performance, Real Madrid secured a 3-0 victory over Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday. The win marked a significant turning point in their Champions League last-16 tie.
Federico Valverde scored his first hat-trick for the club, netting three goals in the match. The Uruguay international was instrumental in Madrid’s success, taking on the responsibility of leading the team after several key players were injured.
The match began with City starting brightly, but Madrid’s pace and counter-attacks ultimately proved decisive. Valverde opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before adding two more goals to complete his hat-trick. The Uruguayan’s third goal came in the 42nd minute, following a swift move by Vinicius Junior.
Manchester City pressed hard after half-time, but Madrid failed to capitalize on their chances. Instead, it was the visitors who were denied a second goal when Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a penalty attempt from Vinicius Junior.
In other Champions League news, Paris St Germain secured a 5-2 victory over Chelsea in their first-leg tie at the Parc des Princes. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice for PSG, while Luis Enrique’s side came back from two goals down to win the match.
Bodo/Glimt also enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win over Sporting Lisbon in their Champions League last-16 tie. Sondre Brunstad Fet and Ole Didrik Blomberg scored for the Norwegian side, who extended their winning streak to five games.
In another early match, Arsenal’s eight-game winning run in the Champions League came to an end as they drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen. Kai Havertz scored a late penalty for the German side, canceling out Robert Andrich’s earlier goal.
