Real Madrid tops La Liga with convincing 4-1 win over Real Sociedad

Real Madrid Move Ahead of Barcelona in La Liga

Real Madrid secured a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday, moving provisionally to the top of La Liga. The victory was led by Vinicius Junior, who scored two penalties in the match.

Madrid’s star player, Kylian Mbappe, did not participate in the game due to discomfort in his left knee. He had been training with some team sessions during the week but chose not to play. Jude Bellingham also missed the match due to a hamstring injury.

Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring for Sociedad in the fifth minute, but Real Madrid equalized through Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty kick in the 21st minute. Vinicius Junior then scored from his own penalty spot in the 25th minute, before Fede Valverde added to the score with a goal in the 31st minute.

Vinicius Junior scored again after the break, and Madrid captain Dani Carvajal made his return to the team in the 60th minute. The match ended with Vinicius Junior’s second penalty kick being awarded due to Jon Aramburu’s foul on him.

In other La Liga matches, Borja Iglesias scored a goal for Celta Vigo in stoppage time, but it was disallowed through VAR. Espanyol drew 2-2 with Celta Vigo, while Getafe upset Villarreal 2-1 and Sevilla drew 1-1 with Alaves.

Real Sociedad’s 11-game unbeaten run came to an end, and Barcelona will face Girona on Monday. Real Madrid remains two points clear of the defending champions before the match.
