RSF-affiliated fighters kill 27 civilians in Sudan, medical group reports

Sudanese Village Attacked, At Least 27 Killed

A force affiliated with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has carried out an attack in villages west of Bara in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 people. The victims include elderly residents.

According to the Sudan Doctors Network, a medical NGO based in Cairo, the attacks occurred on Thursday in the al-Murrah area. The network described the incident as “a new crime targeting unarmed civilians in areas with no military presence.”

The RSF and allied groups control significant territory in western Darfur region and parts of Kordofan along the border with South Sudan. The group has clashed repeatedly with the army over the town of Bara.

The attack took place during the second day of Eid al-Adha, a significant holiday in the Islamic calendar. The Sudan Doctors Network stated that the RSF’s actions constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and norms prohibiting attacks on civilians.

A recent report by the United Nations-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) found that nearly 19.5 million people across Sudan are facing severe food insecurity due to the ongoing conflict. This has led to widespread hunger, displacement, and loss of livelihoods.

The Sudan Doctors Network is calling for international condemnation and urgent action to protect civilians and stop attacks on residential areas by pressuring RSF leaders to end their actions against civilians.
