Russian and Belarusian Boxers Allowed to Compete in World Boxing Events

World Boxing Announces New Policy for Athletes from Russia and Belarus

A new policy has been implemented by World Boxing, which will see athletes from Russia and Belarus compete without national flags, anthems, logos, or uniforms in international competitions. The decision was made “with immediate effect” and reflects the approach taken by the International Olympic Committee.

According to a statement released by World Boxing, the executive board approved the policy at its most recent meeting in April 2026. The move follows the approval of membership applications from the Russian and Belarusian boxing federations in March, which cleared the way for their athletes to participate in events.

Under the new policy, athletes from Russia and Belarus will compete as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN), subject to a vetting process. This procedure will apply across all age-group competitions organized by World Boxing, European Boxing, and international events run by national federations. The policy also extends to coaches, support staff, and team officials.

The secretary-general of World Boxing formally notified the Russian and Belarusian boxing federations of how the measures will be implemented. The new policy aims to provide a neutral environment for athletes from both countries to compete.
